And it's had enough

Hi,

I am now staring at the black screen of my laptop. 20 minutes. That's how long it lasted. This is why I dislike PCs.

Bye banan!

Don't you just love technology?

Hi,

I am writing this on my laptop which I have only just gotten to work for the first time since march. It's a good thing I haven't needed it a lot for school lately. I've tried a bunch of times to turn it on but it just goes black. Sometimes it makes it to the windows logo or the logo of the make and then goes black. It took me three tries to get it to turn on today. So I should probably salvage my stuff whilst I have a chance but no I'm writing a blog post, because I'm mental. I have strange priorities.
Well I should probably get some sleep now.........

Bye banan!

When will summer come?

*making sure keyboard is in correct language*

Hi,

I don't know about you but I am ready for summer. Seriously it's May, I shouldn't be cold when I'm inside. I should be outside having fun (ignoring the fact that I have exams when I say that) instead of being sat inside miserably trying to memorise case studies when the only thing I want is sleep. I don't think that sentence makes any grammatical sense which just proves that I need more sleep.
*looks at title*
Summer will have to last until around January next year to make up for its failure so far this year. Oh well, I'm sure the weather will get even worse when my exams finish (conveniently). I told my mum that my exams are done in less than two weeks. In her typical encouraging mum way she said that it's IB next which is even harder. I think that IB will be better though because you're not learning for exams. I'm probably going to get back to revision now.

The curse of the keyboard

Hi!

So courtesy of living half of my life in a foreign country I am obviously bilingual. I'm fluent in Swedish and English. Of course I could call myself trilingual by saying that I am also fluent in Swenglish but that hasn't been recognised as a language....... yet. I'm working on it.
You know when you're typing on an iPad or similar you have the keyboard set to a specific language and that you can easily switch language. I've got Swedish, English and French (although I don't use that one now because I don't have French until August) on mine. I've always got it on the wrong language, so autocorrect keeps 'correcting' my text messages and I get really annoyed until I realise for the millionth time that I've got it on the wrong language. When I talked about this with my mum she just commented that it was a real first world issue.
My geography teacher would have my head if she knew that I used that term. It's not correct according to what we learnt last year and I guess I agree....... I don't know
Being bilingual can be pretty funny at times. When I first came here I didn't speak any English. My sister had done a year of English in Sweden so she knew a bit. The first thing she taught her friends here
was how to swear in Swedish.
I mentioned Swenglish before. If I'm speaking Swedish and I don't know a word in Swedish I just say it in English instead. I also use English verb endings on Swedish verbs. When I say stuff wrong my parents are always asking me what language I'm speaking. It's pretty funny. I do correct my mum's English so I guess that they can correct my Swedish.
I like being able to speak Swedish here because I'm the only Swedish person at my school. There are very few Swedes on the island in total. I think there's one other family, there used to be more but they all left..... Anyway if I get annoyed at someone I can tell them in Swedish. I also randomly speak Swedish sometimes becuase it's funny.
I don't think most of that made any sense but I blame the fact that I'm really tired.

A week off!

Hi!

The week of hell is over!
I only have four exams left and two of them are in my favourite subject, history. I also have a geography paper and a physics multiple choice paper. But before that is half term. I haven't had this half term since year six because my school is weird like that but this year I have no exams that week. I'm only in school for a bunch of revision sessions for history next week. I don't mind that because as I said it is my favourite subject.
Multiple choice papers are interesting in my opinion. Ours have forty questions and we have forty five minutes. Most of my friends are done in about fifteen minutes. We have an answer sheet on which we fill in our amswers with a pencil in the right boxes. My strategy for multiple choice exams is this;

  1. Be first to walk into exam hall. Don't bring phone in (cough)
  2. Sit down at desk which is too low etc.
  3. Start exam
  4. Put answer sheet to one side
  5. Go through question paper, circling 'correct' answers
  6. Go through question paper, checking answers and crossing out 'wrong' answers
  7. Check time. If only little time left, fill in answer sheet as fast as possible
  8. If plenty of time is left, go through question paper and 'perfect' the circles around the answers
  9. Go through question paper, make sure crossing out lines are completely straight and look neat
  10. Go through question paper, checking answers
  11. Check answers
  12. Check answers
  13. Fill in answer sheet as slowly as possible
  14. Make sure lines on answer sheet are inside boxes
  15. If time is left, check answers
  16. Check answers
  17. Shade in periodic table if there is one or any other pictures in question paper

This is pretty much what I did in biology. I had way too much time!
Today, I did not have a lot of time left. There were some very tricky questions. And some which weren't difficult necessarily but it took me a while to understand the question because it was badly worded.

Just a few left

Hi!

I only have five exams left now. I'm saying that without any sarcasm whatsoever.
Let us see if this photo that I took yesterday will agree to be posted on my blog. I'm going to post some photos on Facebook now as promised. Go like my page!

Hi!

Just a quick post.
My older sister and my mum went out driving today so I went with them to take some photos.
The photos are going to be uploaded on Facebook by moi. Please go and like my page which is called thoughtsofaswedemovinghome!

Testing testing

Hi!

I'm just checking to see if this works. Apparently I can send my posts as emails straight to my blog and they'll be published.
Ok so if you're reading this, it has worked!
Yay!
Also, some people told me that they couldn't post comments. I think I fixed the problem so please help me by leaving a comment so that I can see if it works.

My hand hurts

Hi!

I just had an English literature exam and my hand hurts now. A lot. I'm going to bake a cake now.
..........
My sockerkaka is now in the oven. It's actually rising this time. I think it's becuase I used the right recipe but I'm really pleased. Almost pleased enough to cancel out the woe from my maths exam. Almost.
Oh well, it's over now. I have now completed biology, maths, English language, English literature and French. By the end of this week I'll have finished chemistry and drama too. I have drama tomorrow and I'm sure it will go well (cough) but I'm kinda scared of chemistry. It's the big red monster and it's out to get anyone who doesn't understand polymers...... Biology wasn't very hard but physics was so hard that genius struggled. So we'll see. I'm hoping that chemistry next year will be repeating what I've already done but with a decent teacher. Then I might have a chance of understanding.
I like writing this blog becuase I don't have to worry about the grammar.
Now for some wise quotes;

"Life is too short to worry about (insert chemistry or physics topic here)"
E.g. "Life is too short to worry about specific heat capacity" or "life is too short to worry about chromatography"
"If you do not mention the (insert obscure detail from Of Mice and Men here) then frankly you deserve a D"
"A D grade candidate will not mention pugnacious in their essay"
Sorry those are kinda jokes to do with my school, I don't consider the last two to be wise. I just find them funny.

What I learned at school today;

  • Lower school exams = crazy little people being very loud
  • We are not allowed mobile phones or other illegal electrical equipment in an exam, turned off or otherwise
  •  Removes are crazy
  • We have nowhere to eat when the canteen is shut for exams
  • Our teachers don't like it when the take the chain on the stairs down to get down the big staircase which is blocked off for an exam we just did
  • Savage likes to revise
  • English teachers think that exam papers can be nice
  • I can write really fast when I need to
  • My hand hurts after writing nine pages worth in an hour and a bit.
  • I hate exams
Do you like the nicknames I have for my friends? There's savage, Etta, the boss, genius.....

Bye banan!

Only (!) eight left

Hi!

So I got two more exams out of the way today. English language and biology multiple choice.
My right hand was hurting so much after English so I told my maths teacher that I'm glad we get so much time for maths tomorrow becuase my hand is officially dead.
I'm tired as you can probably tell from my mental rambling.
Does anyone know the point of GCSEs?
I looked it up on the magic google a while back and it just came up with articles about the English baccalaureate (I hope that I spelt that right in my English exam). I have therefore come to the conclusion that it's all part of the government's evil plan to take over the world. The point of the exams is for them to find the most cleverest (I know that isn't grammatically correct) people so that they can abduct them and use them in the grand scheme of things.
Seriously though I would go back in time to like the Romans just so that I could shoot the twats who came up with exams.
I'm gonna get back to revision now before my mum tasers me.
Goodbye!
Au revoir!
Auf Wiedersehn!
Hejdå!
Do svidaniya!

Argh!

Hi!

I have a two hour English language exam tomorrow! Argh!
Strangely I'm not nervous. Should I be?
My hand will be dead. Luckily my afternoon exam consists of shading boxes for biology multiple choice. I have a two hour maths exam on Tuesday followed by English literature. Argh! My hand will be dead. This is when I wish I was non domimant handed so that I could easily switch to writing with my left hand when my right hand hurts. Oh I can dream.
Anyway wish me luck with the upcoming week of hell which also includes a chemistry theory paper and a drama exam.......

Eurovision!

Hi!

I know this is kinda late but I meant to post it yesterday after Eurovision but my Internet went bonkers.
I would obviously have liked to see Sweden win but I have to admit that Emmelie de Forest was wonderful. The British commentator was so funny becuase he was saying that maybe Denmark could win but it wouldn't be a landslide and then it was. They announced their victory before three of the countries had even voted. That's what I would call a landslide. He was saying how Denmark wouldn't win even when it was clear that they would and it was hilarious. He was very unprofessional though in my opinion. He called the choreography woeful in one of the acts. He made lots of other comments  that were also pretty rude. But then again so did my sister. She kept interrupting and I wanted to hear what was going on. She is so annoying.
What was I going to say? I don't know. I'll have to make something up.
Oh yeh, I know that Eurovision isn't a very bid deal in the UK compared to Sweden but then again it is a massive deal in Sweden. I'm a bit curious about how the Brits select their contestant. In Sweden we have a massive contest called Melodifestivalen but I don't think that's how the Brits do it. Anyone who know please leave a comment (if it works).
Also I'm pretty sure Guernsey can't take part. Guernsey is not part of the UK so who would a Guern compete for?
Anyway head over to my Facebook page for some awesome photos of Guernsey which I will be uploading on there from now on.

Saturday 18 May 2013

Hello again!

Hi!

So I haven't posted since Tuesday. Shame on me. In my defence I've been revising rather a lot for the upcoming week of hell. I'm actually terrified for my chemistry theory paper. The biology one was ok but the class genius thought that the physics one was hard and it was. The only good thing about these exams is that they're external. We won't have our chemistry teacher going over it with us and telling us that we should know this really obscure bit of information that we learnt in year 7.
So yeah, next week I have six exams. The week after that is nothing and then I have exams on the third, fourth and fifth. And my last exam is on the tenth of June. I can't wait until the eleventh. Then prom is on the twentieth, so excited! I don't know why I'm excited for prom but still...
So today I am focusing mainly on chemistry. I need to find some papers that I haven't done yet. This is proving to be pretty difficult becuase there are none on the portal (more on that in a future post) and the exam board website only has the most recent ones. Tis very annoying. I'll just revise the difficult stuff (ie the whole syllabus). Then I will do a maths paper. Then I will go over the heart and some other stuff. Then I'll go over the play for drama and revise some stage layouts (yes I do GCSE drama don't judge me).
Sound like an exciting day?
No!
I thought I would share some interesting information about my school. The year groups have different names so it goes like this;
Reception is lower prep
Year one is middle prep
Year two is upper prep
Year three is junior remove
Year four is form one
Year five is form two
Year six is form three
Year seven is remove
Year eight is lower four
Year nine is upper four
Year ten is lower five
Year eleven is upper five
Year twelve is lower six
Year thirteen is upper six

Reception to year six is technically a different school.
I joined the school in remove.
I am now in upper five

Does/ did your school have a strange naming system?

P.S. you know I've been struggling to post my photos on here becuase I use an iPad due to my laptop not working. I was thinking of uploading the pictures on to my Facebook page instead which is called  thoughts of a swede moving home. Go like it and you'll see all my awesome photos that I'm going take!

P.P.S. thanks for reading my blog!

Another one down

Hi!

I've done another exam today. It wasn't as bad as I expected. I'm pretty certain that I passed so that is good.
I've got the day off tomorrow and them it's physics on Thursday and a day off on Friday before all hell breaks loose next week. I'm going to revise for my English language paper tomorrow mainly and I'll also do a physics theory paper and maybe go over my notes. But today I'm not doing anything becuase I don't feel too good.
I would like to share a code for graze.com with all my lovely readers: YZH4L3ZC
Unfortunately I think it only works in the UK but they do deliver do Guernsey.
Plenty of awesome people in Guernsey who read my blog. This code is kind of sayin thank you to you for reading my blog. So go and check out the website www.graze.com and get your first box for free.

Hejsan svejsan tralalalaa

Hi!

Strange title right? If you hadn't already realised I am a bit mental.
I only have 12 exams left now. Note the sarcasm. I had two French papers today, listening and reading. I had no idea what to write for one of my answers so I put brewing the potion of living death (cos I'm a Potterhead). I just realised that the proper name for that is Draught of Living Death. Professor Slughorn makes Harry's class brew it in their first 6th year class with the promise of a vial of Felix Felicis (liquid luck) if they get it right. Harry gets it with help from the Half Blood Prince's (Snape) notes in the text book. It tells him to crush one of the ingredients with the blunt side of a knife instead of cutting it. Coincidentally I didn't know what to write in my Chemistry mock and put that down. The answer was to use a mortar and pestle, obviously.
Anyway what was I talking about before I went into Harry Potter mode?
So twelve left. Two this week. Six next week! I have English language and English literature squashed into two days. Oh and did I mention that I also have biology and maths on those two days. I also have chemistry that week. Bleugh! No offence to people who like those subjects. I know Etta loves English Lit, especially Of Mice and Men........ lol jokes. Rhi and I also have a drama exam that
week. Although to be honest it's a pretty easy paper.
I was pleased today I'm French because for some reason I wasn't sat at the very front. I'm first in the register so I'm always at the front but today I was at the back. This is an advantage in French listening
because the loudspeakers are only in the back of the hall (technically front under normal circumstances but back during exam season). Also I wanted to sit as close to the loudspeakers as possible because I have dulled hearing. Tis very annoying!
So biology tomorrow. I shall get back to revision. By that I mean reading the revision guide and my notes. I've run out of past papers. :( lol jokes I just don't feel like doing them because they remind me of how rubbish I am.

Bye Banan!

P.S. good luck to anyone doing exams!

P.P.S. Get back to studying Etta!

Saturday 11 May 2013

It's Saturday!

Hi!

It's Saturday! Yay!
I have to revise. Yuck!
Oh well I only have four exams next week; French, French, biology and physics. Should be fun. French isn't too bad. I don't even have my books with me. I only brought biology, physics and English to my friend's house where I'm staying for the weekend. My English exams are not next week but the week after but I really want As so I'm revising for them tomorrow. At the moment I'm doing physics papers. I found about five papers in my revision ring binder. I've done one so far. I've also done a bunch of biology questions but I need to look up papers I guess.
Oh yeah, guess what the German word faggot means. My friend plays the faggot. Lol.
Yeh Etta I'm talking about you.
I should probably get back to revision. Bleugh!

Have a nice weekend!

Unfair!

Hi!

I had a two hour maths exam today. I finished after an hour. Bored!!!!!
I only have 14 exams left. My friend who goes to another school only has ten exams overall. Unfair!
That's all I wanted to say really.
Oh and thankyou so much for reading this, it means a lot to me.

A foreigner's perspective on Liberation Day part two

Hi!

This is continued from my previous post. As I mentioned in that post, my iPad is not cooperating with this website.
Liberation Day is eagerly celebrated by islanders, old and young alike, on the 9th of May.
My friends and I went into town after our exam to see what was happening. We had candy floss and sat laughing on one of the slipways. Exams were not mentioned once! An enjoyable afternoon! There is always local produce like jewellery on sale and plenty of ice cream.
There's always a party atmosphere and it feels like the whole island is congregated along the seafront.
I think I'll miss Liberation Day after moving. It's a lot of fun and if anyone ever decides to visit Guernsey I would recommend going for Liberation Day because it's a lot of fun. They even sound the air siren which is really cool for a history geek like me.
I will be back tomorrow so remember to visit this website tomorrow too. I am very grateful to all of my readers. Please leave comments and I would really appreciate people liking my Facebook page. Hopefully I'll be posting some entertaining stuff, especially after exams are over.
Thanks again for reading.

A foreigner's perspective on Liberation Day

Hi!

The last part of this excerpt from a speech made by the great Winston Churchill starting at 'and' and ending at 'today' is carved in stone at the Liberation Monument at St Peter Port's harbour.

The rest of Europe celebrated Victory in Europe on the 8th May 1945. The Channel Islands however were not freed until the 9th. Even though the Channel Islands are on the way to France and could perhaps have been freed on D-day they were too heavily defended and not strategically important enough to risk the loss of life that would have been caused by an allied invasion so Guernsey was not freed until the 9th. Jersey also has a lovely Liberation Monument in St Helier. I will continue this in another post as mymy iPad does not like my blog nod I cannot currently see what I am writing.

Bye banan!

15 left....

Hi!

Phew! I only have 15 exams left now (emphasis on the 'only')!
Physics was actually ok. I think I did kinda ok but I don't really know.
We had to go in to school on a holiday though because the exam board does not recognise our holidays....
Oh well, we didn't have to wear uniform so that's a positive.
So tomorrow is maths for two hours.......
On the bright side my exams are over in a month and a day and I'll be living in Sweden in 16 weeks time. Yes, I am sad enough to work that out.

Bye banan!

Where's the milk?

Hi!

I have a physics exam in an hour. Should be interesting. After that my friends and I are going into town for the Liberation Day celebrations. All the other schools are off today, like the rest of our school, but we have an exam becuase we do IGCSE. I saw a little article about it in the Guernsey Press. It's only an hour though. Plus most of my school finish their GCSEs before the other schools because  most of ours are in may. Which is good.
Anyway what was the title of this post?
Oh yes! The milk! You may know that Guernsey is famous for its cows and its milk. Well the machine at the dairy (well part of it) has broken down so the milk is running out. They're using a smaller one at the moment but it doesn't make anywhere near as much milk as the big machine. When I first heard about I realised that there is an advantage to being lactose intolerant becuase my milk is imported. However people have been panicking and madly dashing to the stores to get milk. Wen they can't find Guernsey milk they buy lactofree, soya milk etc. hmph! Normally there's plenty of my milk available but according to mammsis there wasn't much left yesterday. The states have lifted the restrictions on imported milk so we're getting milk from Jersey (boo! hiss!) and the UK.
Why do I boo Jersey? Guernsey people don't like Jersey people and Jersey people don't like Guernsey people. It's like Emgland and France or Sweden and Norway. A friendly rivalry now but a deadly rivalry in years past.....

Bye banan!

Sixteen left

Hi!

I had another two exams today. Chemistry. No words can describe how much I dislike chemistry exams. The subject is ok. It would be more enjoyable if we did more experiments and didn't have to learn so many equations but still.
Today was also my last day with lessons at my current school. We had two hours of lessons in the morning. It was quite good becuase we had a chemistry lesson this morning before the exam. We then had photos taken outside and did a collage of our hand prints. I did my hand with yellow fingers and a blue palm. Brownie points for guessing why!
We then had an ice cream van at lunch. Yum! Being hyper for exams is not ideal but I wasn't too bad.
They actually gave us the right paper first time round this time. Fem toasters!
I should get some sleep. I'm absolutely shattered after working for three and a half hours waitressing, which makes me mental because I have an exam tomorrow. My reasoning is that I wouldn't get any work done anyway so I might as well do something useful........
Tomorrow is Liberation Day and I will be doing a post all about the events tomorrow so you should all return to this blog tomorrow.

Bye banan!

Tuesday 7 May 2013

One down...

Hi!

So I'm done my first exam. Yay! One down, eighteen to go....
Update on yesterday's post;
The cake we made for geography was very well received. I didn't hav any but apparently it was very good. The sockerkaka actually tasted quite nice. I think I might use more baking powder next time so that it will rise more or maybe actually follow the instructions in the recipe because I'm pretty sure I didn't. Oh well......
Oh yes, I asked for comments on what you thought the cake was meant to be.
It was a constructive plate boundary....... yeh my friend and I are that sad.
I should go revise chemistry now. Should, probably won't. In the words of a very clever friend of mine: if you haven't revised by now you're screwed.
Oh well, I have revised, I'll just go over my notes and see if I can find some papers.
Today's exam seemed to go quite well. I was surprised to find that I knew the stuff but I'm scared that they made this paper easy and the other two hard. Yeh, three exams for each science! Hmph!

You know what I like about this blog? I don't have to use proper grammar.

Bye banan!

Monday 6 May 2013

Hello people of planet earth!

Hi!

Hi!

So I've got my first GCSE exam tomorrow. Argh!!!
So what I have I been doing today? Revising? Hahahahahahaaaa......
No I have revised. About five minutes after my friend arrived for a revision and baking session I was convinced that I would fail. Seriously, why do the valves of the heart have to have a million different names each?
I've got four lessons tomorrow, compared to the usual six, due to my exam. It's the last lesson in all of the subjects so it's basically a pig-out-on-cake day. Just like Friday.
Friday was very fun, apart from the lessons in which we actually worked. We had a Chinese takeaway for lunch which was very yummy. It was a leavers lunch so they took pictures of the people who are leaving. There's only about seven of us. Three of us are in my group of friends. Everyone else is going to a school that is just down the road but I have to be different. I'm going to another country! Although it is my native country that I'm moving home to.
Anyway back to reality. Well, back to whatever I was talking about earlier. Oh yes, my friend and I made a cake for geography. Try and guess what it is (if I manage to upload the photo). We were going to make a world cake type of thing but then we decided that it was too complicated so yeah. I also made a cake for History. Last time I made a sockerkaka it turned out really nice and rose a lot in the oven. However this time I must have done something wrong because it barely rose at all. Hmph! My friend laughed at my failure. I have such nice friends! I will now try to upload photos of the cakes. Wish me luck!

Bye banan!

Failed photo upload

Hi!

I just noticed that I messed up uploading the photos in my previous post. I will try to upload the geography cake again. It looks interesting

Good night!

Hello again

Hi!

I was looking at Harlem shake videos on YouTube because we did one today for our leavers assembly at school and I came across this great video:
http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=relmfu&v=eNMycQg_Vnw
It's from a Charlie Chaplin movie from the 1930s based on Nazi Germany. I think it was released
during the war but I'm unsure of the details. This video is from the end where Charlie Chaplin steps
out of character to deliver a wonderful speech which I think that everyone should watch.
The movie is also very good.

I know that this was a very random post but I wanted to share this video with whoever reads this.
